Base jumper's parachute RIPS in mid-air leaving him clinging to side of cliff edge for hour

This is the heart-stopping moment a base jumper's parachute ripped in mid-air, leaving him clinging to the side of a cliff edge for an hour.

Footage filmed by Johnni DiJulius in Phoenix, Arizona, shows him counting down for BASE jumping before he begins to parachute and loses control, hitting the edge of the cliff.

His leg bends backwards and he fights to regain his balance, soaring down the cliff in an unstable manner.

The terrified thrill seeker then says: 'I've shredded my f***ing canopy!'

In the footage, he glides in the air smoothly for a while but then careers into another part of the cliff at speed as his parachute fails.

Using his upper body strength, he hangs on tightly to the edge and hoists himself up to recover from the traumatic ordeal.

Mr DiJulius shared the death-defying incident on Instagram on January 31, with the caption: ‘I was hesitant to show this, but I fortunately walked away with no injuries.

‘I couldn’t steer and was shocked it was still flying. I lost too much altitude fighting off the wall, and since I couldn’t steer with a ripped canopy, I knew I wasn’t going to make it out the talus.

‘I hit the second cliff and got hung up. At this point I knew I was not injured but wasn’t sure if anyone saw me because I was the last to go.

'After about an hour holding onto the side of the cliff, I finally climbed down and hiked back out.'
He also thanked some of his friends who helped him to escape his scary predicament.

It's not the first time the base jumper has faced a calamity while on a jump.

In October 2019, the professional stuntman broke his ankle while base jumping at 215ft high Taughannock Falls in New York State.

Revealing the incident on Twitter in March 2020, he shocked many of his followers.

They said they had been left feeling 'anxious' after watching the footage and another joked 'I think you need an intervention.'

And another wrote: 'I knew it, and you promised me you would be more careful!!'
