ostrich collides with woman on a bike

Bizarre moment an escaped OSTRICH knocks woman off her bicycle in Argentina

This is moment a woman was knocked off her bicycle by a speeding ostrich in a bizarre collision in Argentina.

CCTV footage shows the escaped bird sprinting down a street in Ranchos, Buenos Aires, on Monday, straight towards a woman slowly pedalling over a crossroads.

The large bird appears to spot her far too late to slam on its brakes, and flaps its wings uselessly before colliding with the bike.

The woman lands in a heap on the ground, breaking her wrist and sustaining a large cut to her head.

Seemingly injured, the dazed ostrich hobbles off, toppling over once before disappearing from view.

Meanwhile, a witness walks over to help the injured woman.

According to local reports, the bird was a pet that escaped from a nearby home.

Ostriches, while famously unable to fly, can run at speeds of up to 43mph.

It is unclear whether this bird was exceeding the speed limit which in Argentina is usually 25mph (40km/h) in residential areas and 37mph (60km/h) in urban areas.

According to local reports, a witness called the emergency services and the cyclist was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for her injuries.

A neighbour reportedly keeps two pet ostriches, despite being considered wild animals in the country.

Outraged residents are calling for the bird's owner to be held responsible. However, it is unclear if the local authorities are investigating the matter.

An expert interviewed by the news site TN, said ostriches are capable of adapting to any environment after four months of age, despite normally being raised on farms
