WATCH Florida high school runner gets sucker punched mid-race

Shocking moment high school runner leading race is sucker-punched in the head by another athlete who ran onto the track and chased him down

5. On the subsequent lap, the black athlete sucker punched the runner the face, knocking him over - he managed to get to his feet and complete the race
6. Police were called although it is not known if charges were filed

A high school runner was sucker-punched by an another competitor who ran into his lane during the race at a Florida track meet.

Just as the pack was coming down the straight portion of the track in the 1,600-meter race, the attacker made a beeline for the runner from the infield at the Tohopekaliga Tiger Invitational in Kissimmee on Saturday.
The teen, who was dressed in running shorts and a T-shirt, appeared to come out of nowhere and caught the runner dressed in white-and-red by surprise.

Before the start of the race, the black teen who ran onto the tack had been told by the punched runner, who is white, to move out of the way, according to TMZ.

The black teen did not move and on the following lap of the four-lap race, which was not caught on video, the white running reportedly pushed the black athlete out of the way, knocking him over after he deliberately got in the way.

It was during the subsequent lap, that the black athlete chased him down on the track and punched him in the head.

The punch threw the leading runner off balance and saw him floored in a heap at the side of the track as other runners ran around him to finish the race.

The runner who was hit got up and eventually crossed the finish line.

In the stands, spectators supporting the athletes from 27 schools competing in the invitational were stunned by what they had just witnessed.

'Are you f***ing kidding me?!' one person could be heard saying repeatedly while others simply screamed in horror.

Canadian Running Magazine says that police were called although it is not known if charges were filed.
