hot air balloon crashes into the ground

Man films the moment his hot air balloon crashes into the ground

Heart-pounding video footage shows the moment high-speed winds forced a packed hot-air balloon to crash-land in California as the airship's guide frantically urges the people inside to 'hang on' and 'stay in the basket.'

The dramatic 24-second clip, posted to TikTok Friday by Nicholas McCall, begins with a close-up of the California resident in the basket of the balloon with several others as it flies above the town of Perris - located about 80 miles north of San Diego.

McCall, who recorded the clip to chronicle his first-ever hot-air balloon experience, seems to be enjoying the ride with the rest of the group at first, filming the town and surrounding scenery below as the balloon floats high in the air.

The trip suddenly goes south, however, after winds kick up and buffeted the hot-air balloon as it made its descent.

The Riverside County town can be seen at the start of the footage, before high-speed winds forced the balloon to make a crash-landing

The clip then cuts to the crash, with the balloon's guide telling members of McCall's group to brace for impact and remain in the balloon's basket at all costs

McCall, who managed to whip out his phone and film the crash, explains in the caption, 'My hot air balloon experience was going great until the winds picked up.'

'Here we go!' the balloon's guide can be heard shouting to passengers as they brace for impact in the nail-biting clip, which has been shared more than 650,000 times.

'Hang on! Hang on! Hang on!' the instructor yells as McCall films, as winds send the balloon and basket hurtling to the ground in a patch of grassland just outside the California town.

'Everybody hang on! Everybody hang on and stay in the basket!' the guide shouts in the shaky footage as the vessel is dragged at high speeds.

'In the basket with me! Stay on! Stay on! Stay on!' the man can be heard shouting in the shaky footage, as members of McCall's group scream and whimper during the harsh landing.

The force of the impact can be seen as McCall's phone bounces back and forth but he somehow keeps track of the crash as the gondola is dragged across the earth at a frightening speed - all while the guide screams at everyone to hang on and remain inside at all costs.

After 20 terrifying seconds, the footage suddenly cuts off, leaving some doubt as to the group's fate following the crash.

In his caption, however, McCall revealed that everyone survived the crash, writing: 'Tik tok we are all okay don’t delete.'

Local outlet KABC-TV further reported Monday that no one was injured.

DailyMail.com reached out to the Perris-based business that oversaw the balloon ride, Balloon SkyDive, for more details on the crash Monday, but did not immediately receive a response.

McCall and the other occupants can count themselves lucky, as many balloon crashes over the years - most coming during similar balloon ride tours - have proven fatal.

Over 12 years, nearly 80 balloon tours crashed in the US, according to a study by the National Library of Medicine.

The research from the federal agency reveals 518 occupants were involved in the balloon crashes between 2000 and 2011. In the study, the paper recorded 91 serious injuries and five fatalities. All fatalities occurred after a balloon struck a fixed object, the report shows.

Meanwhile, nearly 80 percent of the crashes - like this one - were blamed on winds.
